Yes, There’s Still Baseball

It’s tough on me since my Yanks are essentially eliminated from the playoff race, but I’ve still got a fantasy team in the playoffs to attend to.  Here are some observations late in the season, but not too many since I’m really busy this week:

-Those were counting on Billy Wagner to come back during the stretch run, stop.  Wagner’s out for the year, and probably next year too as he will undergo Tommy John surgery.  Luis Ayala seems to have locked up the role of Mets closer, so pick him up if others haven’t been paying attention.

-If I had the time, I would try to find out what Jimmy Rollins’ stats are for the last 2 Augusts and Septembers combined.  The man is just straight filthy down the stretch. 3 more thefts tonight.

-Add Bartolo Colon to the list of guys who might be able to help you down the stretch.  He was more than serviceable earlier this summer before his injury, and the Red Sox are still playing hard as they continue to try to chase down the Rays.

-One more to the aforementioned list: Chris Young, who threw a complete game win in his last start.  The Padres won’t get him much run support, but if this guy ever gets on a roll when he’s on the mound, the strikeouts will pile up and you will be happy.

-Ugly blown save tonight by Salomon Torres.  He’s been solid most of the year, but hasn’t seen many save opportunities as of late (only 1 since Aug. 23).

-Magglio Ordonez is on fire. He’s hitting .469 over his last 13 games.  Time to ride him if you’ve got him and are still playing meaningful games.

-In case I haven’t stressed this enough: get Brandon Morrow if you are in your league’s playoffs.  Two starts next week, and he is in position to dominate.
