10 Thoughts On A Monday Morning
Not too much stat-crunching involved here, but just some observations:
1) I’m just about ready to give up on the Bengals offense. Housh and Ocho Cinco have been next to useless, and Palmer has been worse than that. I’ve got Kenny Watson stashed on the bench in a few leagues, and I’m not even sure he’s worth holding onto at this point because their offensive line is so bad.
2) Impressive QBs this week include Aaron Rodgers and Jay Cutler. Both have young WRs as big weapons who could potentially move into the elite at their position. Both have solid running games to back them up (Ryan Grant’s dud against the Lions notwithstanding). I don’t have either in any of my leagues, but if I did I wouldn’t hesitate to start them every week.
3) Brandon Marshall. Wow. I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility he finishes in the top 5 at the WR position, even after missing one game.
4) Biggest dud thus far on the year? I’d say it’d have to be Carson Palmer, but not far behind him is Ladanian Tomlinson. I know he’s been slowed down by a toe injury, but for a guy who was picked either 1st or 2nd in just about every league this year, he’s accomplished very little.
5) Those of you who took a gamble and drafted Calvin Johnson a round too early… kudos to you. The guy looks like he is already a stud. Have you even heard anyone talk about Roy Williams so far this year?
6) I don’t know how Justin Fargas can reclaim his job after what Darren Mcfadden did yesterday. It would make no sense especially if their motive was winning games.
7) I don’t do this often, but a pat on the back to yours truly for picking up Tony Scheffler as a free agent yesterday morning to fill in for the hurricane-affected Owen Daniels. That single pickup alone won me a game in one of my leagues this week.
8 ) Matt Hasslebeck’s best wide receiver right now is Billy McMullen. No wonder Julius Jones got in so much work.
9) I’m a little ticked the Steelers didn’t reveal the actual severity of Ben Roethlisberger’s injury until late last night. I’m not sure I would’ve played him if it had been known he was recovering from a separated shoulder. I realize it’s likely the same injury that Eli Manning had last year (which did not negatively affect Manning at all), but still, it would have been nice to know.
10) Jonathan Stewart is ready to take over in Carolina. Deangelo Williams has had years to prove himself as the top dog for the Panthers in the backfield. He hasn’t done so, and Stewart should be the guy going forward.
