My Dud List Through Week 3
Three weeks into the season, I’ve got two of my football teams sitting at 1-2, and another at 2-1. While I’m neither dominating or digging myself a huge hole to start the season, I’m a little alarmed at the general level of mediocrity my teams have displayed thus far. A couple of key guys to blame for the slow start:
Ben Roethlisberger
I own him in two leagues, and his devastating negatives cost me dearly in one of them. Ben has yet to get on track this year, and his multiple injuries (shoulder and hand) aren’t helping things either. I’m benching him in both leagues next week, as the Steelers face the tough Ravens D on Monday Night.
Wes Welker
He’s still getting a boatload of catches (19 in 3 games), which is key for my PPR league, but Welker isn’t sniffing the end zone at all, and he’s going to need to if he wants to move back up to WR2 status.
Ladanian Tomlinson
His 26-carry performance last night was encouraging, as it definitely showed me that he might finally be past his toe problems, but LT has not been the dominant runner so far this year that we have seen in the past. Gone are the long runs and the ankle-breaking moves he used to put on defenders. He’s had to work a lot harder to get what he’s gotten so far this year, and it hasn’t been much.
Javon Walker
Perhaps I put way too much stock into a guy coming off an injury that gets thrown to by Jamarcus Russell, but I definitely would’ve thought Walker would have put up better numbers than he has so far. He’s been virtually invisible thus far, and in those leagues where I pegged him in as a WR3, I’m suffering badly using backups in his place.
Braylon Edwards
This guy might be my biggest dud of all. 3 games in, he has a total of 8 catches for 73 yards and no scores. He was projected to be a top 5 WR this year, and he’s been nothing but terrible. A lot of it can be attributed to the poor play of Derek Anderson, but Edwards should be a guy who should never be catching less than 4-5 balls a game, regardless.
I need to remind myself all the time, but here’s some advice: don’t panic if your team has gotten off to a slow start. If you drafted well, things will turn around eventually. Trust your evaluation of talent. However, if early season injuries have taken a toll on your team, you might need to look outside your roster for help. That would be the only reason I’d swing an emergency trade this early.

I think I would hang on to Braylon Edwards he may get a lot more catches with Brady Quinn coming in.
